Sanjay Masilamani, M.D.
Sanjay Masilamani, MD is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in 2007 and completed his psychiatry residency at West Virginia University School of Medicine in Charleston WV. He serves as medical director for the Synapse intensive outpatient treatment facility and treats patients from the perspective that addiction is a brain disease.
Dr. Masilamani has been practicing for over ten years and his primary focus is providing honest communication with his patients and helping patients understand that addiction is a disease and should be treated as such. He excels at treating patients with dual diagnoses which include addiction disorders that are combined with mental health disease such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, schizophrenia and PTSD.
Dr. Masilamani believes in using every tool that may be necessary to treat addiction disorders. This may include the use of Pharmacotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family and Individual Psychotherapy. The most rewarding part of his practice involves the successes of patients who are able to re-enter society in a productive manner and achieve education, family reconnections, job stability and self-confidence to maintain their sobriety.
Dr. Masilamani continues to practice medication assisted treatment (MAT) at FamilyCare. He previously served as Medical Director for a MAT program at Valley Health in Hurricane, West Virginia. During his residency at West Virginia University Charleston Division he was chief resident and his achievements include being recognized as “outstanding resident student educator for excellence in clinical teaching” three years in a row. He is a professional member of the American Medical Association, American Psychiatry Association and American Society of Addictive Medicine.
